If you’re in the hospital with your hood up, ingesting some barium before your X-ray may be a good thing, but if you’re a parent, here’s one more reason to stay clear away from Made in China toys. On Oct 20, 2009, Health Canada announced a recall of the Children’s Size Ironing Board Toy, a Made in China product found to contain barium in excess of safe limits!
For years now, China-made products finding their way to Canadian store shelves have been discovered to be unhealthy or downright deadly to humans. And yet, the Canadian government, lead by Stephen Harper and his minority conservative gang, continue to steer the Canadian economy into globalism, with China as a major financial beneficiary of our consumer spending. At the same time, local neighbourhood mom and pop businesses, unable to compete with the insanely cheap prices (and quality) of goods imported from China (aka Communist China, and Red China), have been shutting down for good.
The evidence of dangerous and toxic goods landing in Canadian homes, courtesy of importers of Made in China goods, is well documented, and briefly browsing the archives of the recalled products list at Health Canada should be more than enough to sober up Canadian consumers. But, instead of demanding more checks and balances for consumer safety, and showing more support for local businesses, Canadians, feeling the pinch of the recession (a clear consequence of globalism), line up at the tills in the Walmarts, Canadian Tires, and other major distribution outlets for Made in China products.
This recall is neither the first, nor will it be the last. In this case, children’s toys were coated with paint containing barium, and the levels of this toxic substance were out of the ball park as far as allowable limits. How did this even end up on our shelves - for 4 years?
According to Health Canada, the Children’s Size Ironing Board Toy which was recalled, was imported from China by Schylling Associates Inc. of Rowley, Massachusetts, and then distributed throughout shops in Canada. Approximately up to 1,100 families were exposed to this potential health danger. Needless to say, these toys must be immediately removed from reach of children (or any humans for that matter).
If you’re a proud owner of this Made in China toxic toy, you would have purchased it between February 2005 and September 2009. Can you believe it? This product has been slipping its way into Canadian homes for about 4 years before the danger was officially recognized and the public was warned. Maybe a bit less money for bullets to fight the war against the people of Afghanistan and a few more dollars on domestic public safety services might have made a difference in this case!
You don’t have to buy Made in China goods. There are still plenty of authentic Canadian goods and service providers, but they desperately need your support RIGHT NOW!
