Up to 7,800 Americans have exposed themselves to a kind of haunted experience far beyond what they thought they were getting into when they purchased Haunted House Screen Tea Light Holders, Made in China, and set loose on the American public courtesy of Coyne’s & Company in the USA!

On October 21, 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission declared an immediate recall of this proven dangerous product. Apparently, this Halloween season tea light holder offers more trick than treat, due to the way in which it is known to set itself on fire. Yankee Candle stores have been peddling this dangerous Made in China product between August 2009 and September 2009.

This is just one more example of dangerous made in China products finding their ways into homes across North America and causing harm before the goods are flagged and recalled. The list of incidents of bad Made in China products grows each month, yet big box importers continue to thrive selling these cheap, landfill destined items.

With all the problems emerging with Made in China products, it’s a wonder that insurance companies have not yet started to waive their coverage in cases where Made in China products are used in homes. Insurance companies are bottom line oriented, so don’t be surprised to see some interesting new language in insurance waivers as more houses burn down because of defective products originating in China.

Do you STILL trust in the safety of goods Made in China? The alarming number of incidents related to dangerous goods from China is not unrelated to the nature of trade with China. The beauty of Made in China goods from an importer’s perspective is that cheap price is guaranteed without the (nagging) responsibility to the labour force or environment we used to worry about when goods were made locally.

How badly do YOU need cheap products? There are LOCAL Canadian-made goods still available, but you better hurry, because Canadian mom and pop shops are closing their doors each month because of Made in China competition!
