Unique Products and Services Made in Ontario HERE…

It seems that Canadian consumer complacency related to product origins is a significant obstacle to resolving some of the many economic problems we face today. Somehow, a large portion of the Canadian population believes that Made In China is the new Made in Canada, whether we like it or not. And, with all the misdirection provided by corporate-owned mainstream “media”, it’s no wonder that many Canadians feel helpless and hopeless when it comes to matters of local economy.

It’s true that the Canadian government’s decision (not necessarily the people’s) to put local independent manufacturers and mom/pop shops on the slaughtering block, in favour of engaging in global trade, has indeed decimated Canada’s once stellar manufacturing capabilities. This was a conscious and deliberate choice, but not necessarily wise, as our present global economy recession proves.

When Brian Mulroney, Stephen Harper’s on/off former mentor (depending on what direction the media scandal winds are blowing), blessed Canada with an unprecedented trade deal with the United States, Canadians were warned that “some” jobs might be lost, but the gains of having such an arrangement would far outweigh any minor adjust “collateral damage”. Can ANYONE today actually say this with a straight face?

Between the “T word” and the “R word”, average working Canadians have been sliding down, what seems to be an endless slippery slope, and what little hope they may have once held close to their hearts has been displaced by fear and willingness to accept anything if it takes even just a little bit of the economic pain away.

We won’t get into Stephen Harper’s obsession to bind Canada in the same military state style of security that the USA has erroded into. Suffice it to say, that if NAFTA has not taught the Canadian PEOPLE enough about what happens when they let corporate-minded politicians make binding deals at their expense, maybe they do deserve the Security and Prosperity Partnership (aka SPP, North American Union, NAU, “probably the dumbest economic idea to date”).

But, if you’re one of those Canadians with SOME national hope left in you, or you’re at least willing to consider that the economic mess our “leaders” have gotten us into (and want to drag us even deeper into) might require some individual participation (even if it’s just baby steps), let us be the first to remind you, that there ARE many many proud hardworking Canadians who refuse to accept government BS about how “global economy” and adopting US-style security is good for Canada and, despite the incredible hardships of trying to be innovative and productive in the shadows of huge corporate importers, they still manage to make stuff which is proudly Canadian!

For obvious reasons, some Canadian manufacturing businesses have been hurt badly and possibly, irreversibly, due to unfair competition from Made in China and other oppressive regime nations. If you’re looking for local Made in Canada goods, you’re best chances will lay along the path of smaller items, typically craftable with a small shop. Surprisingly, there are plenty of goods which fall into this category!

The REALLY Made IN Canada ™ PROJECT is about connecting conscientious Canadians with local Canadian goods and services - at least as Canadian is is possible given the state of our broken industries. You can’t count on the Made in Canada label as an indicator of how your purchase of a product may or may not benefit local Canadian economy. For this reason, we offer VERIFIED Canadian ™ as an alternative, proprietary insight into the makeup of Canadian goods and services which goes deeper and broader into issues that a politically-driven definition of Made in Canada does not even come close to addressing.

In Ontario alone, there are many craftspeople and small manufacturers who do their best to source as much of, if not all, materials for what they make IN Canada. These folks do NOT outsource their labour - they create and sustain jobs in their communities. These folks own and operate their businesses, so there will always be a face to stand before as a customer. These folks make conscious commitments to the environment which go far beyond the wishy washy endless delayed government standards. And above all, these folks are good at what they do!

We welcome you to explore and discover the many local makers of unique products in Ontario!
